    Founder and Principal

    Chennai School Bambino Principal

Mrs. Devila Patel was born and educated in Baroda. She completed her schooling at Maharani School and obtained her first Bachelor’s degree in Science from the Maharaja Sayaji University. She moved to USA in 1958, and qualified for her second Bachelor’s degree in Child Development and Home Science from Butler University, Indiana, USA. At the KG level, the techniques of instruction are based on the stress free play-way approach. A range of carefully selected playground equipment, class room toys and educational aids are provided to make learning a relaxed and joyful experience.

The Primary School uses music, art, drama and regular academic instruction to encourage creative thinking and foster independence. Cooperative group work, and value based education are an integral part of the curriculum.

    Art Education at Bambino

Guided by Ms. Sangeeta Prasad, a Board Certified Art Therapist from Washington University, USA, and a trustee of the school, Bambino has created a unique art education programme. Through a combination of drawing, painting and clay modeling, children at the kindergarten level, are provided opportunities to use the art process to learn, express their thoughts and feelings and integrate new information into their everyday thinking. Art is also used to help children overcome learning difficulties and as therapy for special children.

The black table top technique using chalk and duster, is unique to this school. It provides the child with flexibility to experiment with writing, drawing and expression, as well as developing fine and gross motor coordination. As he writes, draws and then erases what he has created, he feels free to put down what he is learning and scribble and create without hesitation.

The primary school uses an integrated approach to art. As part of everyday learning, children draw what they learn; in their annual projects, they learn to use their imagination to express important concepts while through their weekly art activities they explore the many different materials and techniques in art making.

    ACADEMIC ASSESSMENT

At the primary level, assessment is done by class & subject teachers on the basis of class participation, home work, assignments, weekly tests and annual examination.

Parental attitude and expectations – Our observationsOver the last four decades, there has been a significant change in parental attitudes and expectations. Parents now expect far more from a school than ever before. Our challenge is to keep ourselves open to new ideas and developments without losing sight of our basic values.

At the kindergarten level, parents expect maximum security, a child friendly faculty and management, small class size, close interaction between child and teacher and a well equipped playground.

At the Primary level, parents expect a stress free education, a light home work schedule, and academic freedom tempered with discipline. At the core of their expectations is curriculum and training that will enable their child to fit into any school of their choice.

    Interaction with Parents

    • The school encourages close interaction with parents.
    • Parents of Pre-Nursery are free to meet the class teacher on any day after school hours.
    • Parents of children in LKG & UKG meet teachers formally on Open Days and on specified days during the week. A short booklet on Dos and Don’ts is given to them at the beginning of the academic year.
    • At the primary level, a formal orientation programme for parents is organized in June. Teachers ask for meetings with parents whenever there are issues to be discussed regarding an individual student. Parents may meet teachers after school hours on any working day.

Our Philosophy on children, schooling, education and parenting

    • Every child has immense potential, waiting to be tapped.
    • A Nursery and Primary level school should be a ‘home away from home’; a place of joy where learning is pleasure.
    • Education should be holistic and stress free.
    • Parents should be realistic about their children and accept their limitations, if any. They should work with the school to overcome them to the extent possible.
